Formatting Services

As a self-published author, formatting is something you either have to learn yourself or hire someone to do. The issue is, formatting software is expensive and most of the time, difficult to use. I've been formatting books for a couple of years now, and I can definitely tell you that there have been some learning curves. Recently, I started using Atticus to format books, which I highly recommend. But for $147, I doubt many authors are willing to fork out the money to use it once a year, at the most.

For a flat fee of R500 $28 £25 €28, I will do a full interior format, as well as graphic design. I do not work on the external graphics of the book, AKA the front and back cover, but there are plenty of freelancers on website like Fiverr or Upwork that can assist you.

This includes:

  • margin and page sizing

  • footer numbering and header text

  • paragraph indentation and structuring

  • chapter heading design

  • drop caps

  • font

  • chapter break graphics

  • line spacing

  • front and back matter

  • picture formatting

  • alignment

Please note: BEFORE I can format your manuscript, I will need:

  • front matter

  • back matter

  • a book cover with the names of the fonts used for the text on the cover (for design purposes)

  • a general concept for the chapter heading designs, chapter break headings, font

  • all pictures and graphics, if there are any, that need to be formatted into the book

  • anything else you deem relevant

How long will it take?

The average timeline for formatting is 1 week, although for more complicated graphics, an extra week might be needed.
